Parental Advisory News Report 3.07.10: Lady Gaga

Greetings everyone, this is the PANR and I am your host. Despite a very pissed off disc in my back and being knocked down on non-straight edge society approved drugs, and also despite a dearth of interesting news from the industry, politics, and the usual weird odds and ins, I am here today.

So, with such a wasteland of music news worthy of a first print run, I decided to go back and do something I’ve been missing lately, and that is some old fashioned commentary on the music industry. With an interesting quote from Lady Gaga this week I’ve decided to use today’s column to do just that. Have a good one everyone and I hope spring is breaking out in your corner of the universe today as well.

Lady Gaga – Industry Outsider?

Lady Gaga is continuing to show she is one of the hardest working women in music with multiple appearances in the last week that range from award shows to interviews. This week an odd interview in England flew under the radar, one that revealed more about Gaga and the music business as a whole. Although I don’t think that was the intention.

Appearing on the British show “Friday Night With Jonathan Ross”, Lady Gaga was wearing another wacky outfit. This time the singer was wearing a large phone on her head, it being one of those old time rotary dial phones with the cords. The show itself airs this week for the curious.

Hey – I really do try and stay ahead of the headlines here. I reported that Jackson’s doctor would be targeted by police several weeks before it broke as well as iTunes’s 10 billion songs (cheap plug).

Anywho, she discussed the business and the Brit Awards. “I didn’t speak to anyone at the Brits.” She added that she feels disconnected from the industry. “I’m an outcast from the music industry,” she explained. “I don’t have any friends flights from Canberra to Sunshine Coast in the music business.”

‘Come Dine With Me’ sparks ‘fakery’ row

January 31st, 2010 by kimtan

Source: Digital Spy (Original Article)

Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me has today been accused of misleading viewers after the broadcaster admitted that celebrity contestants are being lent properties to cook in.Producers of the cookery show have hired out properties on occasions when stars did not want their real homes shown on TV, the Daily Mail reports. It is thought that the practice has also occasionally occurred for the convenience of filming schedules.Come Dine With Me follows the progress of amateur chefs as they take turns in hosting dinner parties for the other contestants.Actor Christopher Biggins is said to be one star who was seen in a rented home on the programme because he was “nervous” about showing his real residence on TV. While the property was not explicitly named as his own, he was seen acting as if it was.Meanwhile, in a recent Christmas special, Loose Women star Sherrie Hewson reportedly hosted a dinner party in a rented property because her real home in the north-west was too far away from the other contestants.Responding to the news, Mediawatch director Vivienne Pattinson commented: “I don’t think this does anything for public trust when it is not made clear.”A Channel 4 spokesman said: “For logistic and security reasons, some of the celebrity dinner parties are filmed at a rented location rather than their own homes. This is only the case for the celebrity spinoffs. Contributors for Come Dine cheap flights from Rockhampton to Emerald With Me host their dinners at their own homes.”

Off-limits? Not to veteran comedian Joan Rivers

January 28th, 2010 by kimtan

Source: Kansas.com (Original Article)

Joan Rivers may have once told National Public Radio audiences that Barack Obama was off-limits for comedy because “we still have such high hopes for him.” But that time has long since passed, Rivers
now says.

“Nothing and no one is off-limits permanently,” she says in an interview. “It’s all a matter of timing. By the time I get to Wichita, I’ll probably even have some material on the Haiti earthquake. Life is tough and the only way we have to survive
it is to laugh.”

Rivers, who crashed through the male-dominated stand-up ranks in the 1960s to become Johnny Carson’s favorite guest host and made a career out of asking “Can we talk?,” will bring her act to Wichita’s Orpheum Theatre next Thursday. At
76, she still goes out on the road a couple of times a month “to stay fresh.”

“I try to go out for two shows every other weekend around the country and I am in a local club every Wednesday, no matter what, because I love live performance,” says Rivers, who has also just signed on for another season of E! Network’s
“Fashion Police.” She and her daughter, Melissa, have perfected acerbic (and hilarious) red carpet commentary on celebrity couture hits and misses.

“Fashion should be made fun of — especially when somebody takes it too seriously. Come on, Victoria Beckham, lighten up, already!” she says.

For herself, Rivers, who has graced more than a few best-dressed lists over the decades and has launched her own designer jewelry and beauty products line, prefers “anything that goes with varicose veins — or basic black with lots of
accessories. Thank God for Coco Chanel. She made it so easy. You can’t go wrong.”

Rivers is hands-on about her jewelry collection, which she sells on QVC, because she designs what she would wear: “Whatever you see me in is mine, unless it’s real,” she jokes.
